There’s been a need for out of hours mental health support for those nearing a crisis for a long time. So, we’re delighted to be working with the NHS North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board, to open the Safe Haven in Redcar.
We officially opened the doors on 19th January, and our team is there every day from 4pm – 10:30pm when community-based support is often unavailable. We know that everyone's needs are different, so we’re offering a variety of support including 1-2-1 support and interventions to de-escalate a mental health crisis, activities with the peer support workers, and signposting to other services where necessary.
Katie Flynn is the Services Manager for The Safe Haven and she knows: “It represents a significant step forward in terms of filling the gaps in current mental health support provision. We know that not only will it support those most in need before they reach crisis point, but it will considerably reduce the impact on crisis care teams and support the wider primary and secondary care network. We’re thankful that the NHS North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board recognised the need for such a service and entrusted its delivery to our experienced team. We’re confident that the Redcar Safe Haven is the first of many across Teesside providing help of this kind.
We're here for those who are experiencing severe mental health distress - we know just how important it is to get the right support when you need it. We’ve created a warm, calming, non-judgemental and welcoming space with a lounge and private rooms where we can work with people to manage their emotions and offer support to tackle practical issues affecting their mental health. Our professional and friendly team want people to know they're not alone, we're here for them.”
